Susan Flores, Ellicott Assistant Principal, 2015 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year for Colorado by CASE

Susan_FloresSusan Flores, Assistant Principal of Ellicott Elementary School, has been named the 2015 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year for Colorado by the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE).

An educator for more 17 years, Flores is in her second year in the job at Ellicott Elementary in Yoder.

She modified how students are assessed and developed intervention groups that led to students who needed additional academic support being identified and helped four weeks earlier than the previous year.  She also worked with the staff to use data to make results-based decisions.  The procedural and philosophical shifts reduced the testing window time for students.

Ellicott D-22 Superintendent Patrick Cullen described Flores as “one of the most dynamic educational leaders I have served with throughout my career.”

Flores said in a statement that she was honored and humbled to have been selected for the award.

“This is an affirmation of the remarkable work of the Ellicott staff, students, and community, as well as a result of what can be accomplished when different groups of people come together for a common goal,” she said.

Ellicott Elementary has about 575 students, 70% of whom qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

The award recognizes exceptional leadership of those responsible for the day-to-day operations of pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade schools.

Flores was selected as the award recipient by her peers through a process facilitated by the Colorado Association of Elementary School Principals, an affiliate of the National Association of Elementary School Principles.

Flores will receive her award February 18th during a school event.
