Those Who Can

Those Who Can is a new project that seeks to explore the untold stories of Colorado’s teachers. We’ve all known teachers, yet, up close, we don’t really know what it’s like to live their lives. By sharing the struggles and triumphs of teachers through their own words and experiences, Those Who Can intends to get beyond the headline mentions and blanket statements we often hear about teachers and their lives. DK’s Paula Davis will spend time talking to teachers across the state, sharing their stories through images, words, and audio.

Know a current or former teacher with a story to share? Get involved here or email Paula.

Leveraging the Fifth Day for Learning in Rural Colorado

We recently put out a request for proposals from Colorado communities running on a four-day school week and who are looking to leverage their fifth day for student learning that is meaningful, relevant, and community-driven. We were pleased to receive 31 applications, representing 27 communities across Colorado. What was more impressive than the number of responses was the passion and innovation of all the applicants.

For the next three months, the following eight communities will receive human-centered design training and coaching to develop a plan for their fifth-day pilot program. After this three-month design process, interested teams will then have the opportunity to submit a proposal for grant funding to implement and prototype their idea. Prototyping will begin in Fall 2017.

DK Hot Lunch

Our next Hot Lunch will take place on Friday, April 14th and will feature Mark Murphy, Founder and CEO of GripTape and Nigeria Segure-Watson, one of GripTape’s Youth Leadership Board Members. GripTape gives young people (ages 15-19) the traction they need to take control of their own learning, choose their purposes, and achieve their full potential. April’s invitation will be sent out via email three weeks before the event. If you’re not on our Hot Lunch email list, sign up here.
